I will be much easier if you use the autofocus. Have a look in your manual how to focus on specific areas. Usually you can use AF focus points and you can select one, Orr, if you set your camera to focus on the centre, you can let the camera do the focussing by pressing the release half while having your target in the centre and before you really take the photo move the camera in order to have the right composition (although this method will not always work you are so close and moving your camera could change the distance to the focussed area).
