Star trail at High Country Lavender Farm in Porepunkah, Vic.

The nights in the Alpine Region get very chilly indeed, especially on clear nights. I intended to take a 60 minute trail, however the fog started to drift into the valley which you can see coming into frame and later fogged up the lens !

But I was happy with 30mins, got the effect I was after.

Great star shot. Did you paint the roof with light?

  • Jared Revell replied

    thanks Margaret.
Nope, no extra light added in this, there was a full moon out that night.

This is beautiful Jared – Really clear and perfect. The lighting in the foreground is incredible! (How do you manage to retain such colour and sharpness in a trails shot? – I see the moon reflecting off the roof – is it all moonlit?)

  • Jared Revell replied

    Thanks mate.
I think having the full moon quite high in the sky lighting up the area helped with retaining colour and sharpness.

My daughter Lucy and I are wondering how you did this! Sixty minutes exposure – was it in the middle of the night? How is the grass green?

    A fantastic photo!

  • Jared Revell replied

    Hi Mark, thanks.
I used similar settings to that of my other startrail shot A Long Way Home
I’ve also written a post detailing it on my blog here
It was taken at about 9pm (winter time), so it had been dark for a few hours already and the grass and cottage retain their colour due to their being a full moon combined with the long exposures and higher ISO.
    cheers
