Miss Zelda

My neighbor is an elderly woman they call Miss Zelda
I visit her often to hear the stories she tells me
Sixty years now she has lived in her home
Says shes never wanted to travel the globe

Spends her days in an old rocker on her porch
She loves to sit and rock back and forth
She watches the squirrels and birds as they play
This is her passion she lives for every day

She has bird feeders and baths everywhere
This squirrel lost his Momma,I bottle fed him,"she swears
She would always pick up strays on the road
She would take them in, and give them all a home

Each squirrel and bird had a name
She claimed that no two were the same
Then those men came there last May
They cut down the pines that grew just past her gates

The squirrels and birds stopped coming there to play
Miss Zelda stopped going on her porch everyday
I drove into town for groceries today
Thats when I learned Miss Zelda had passed Away
