Wonderful photograph, Jan! I am intrigued by the mysterious feelings that this image evokes! A moment in time that tells so many “stories”.

  • Jan Timmons replied

Splendid comment and reaction, Gene. Change/growth can feel difficult, and then euphoric.

Not sure how to take this one. It makes a person look into oneself and see what is being lucked up. Thought provoking.

  • Jan Timmons replied

Thank you, Kats. Didn’t want it to be too easy to decipher.

    Hi Jan,
Another wonderful image that stops people in their treacks and causes emotions and pause for thought. As i look at the image I keep thinking of I want your hands and your body side ways a hand on the endge of the gate/fence trap pushing it side ways so you are moving round the side to be free, that is what has just come to be to be free you have to escape differently. You know me and your images always give me gut wrenching emotions and thoughts. Still love the image on the right so powerful for me. I do love the light and intersting love the lines on your palm and you jumper cuff. thank you for pushing my thoughts and emotions on your images you are a inspiration for me my friend. : )

  • Jan Timmons replied

Splendid idea for the hand position, Karen! Thank you very much for your insightful comment—I’ll give it a go soon. You’re very kind.

Hey, that’s another very evocative image Jan. Your use of B&W, the short DoF, the dark background, and that your face is hidden draws attention to the clenching hands, and suggests at those people anonymously locked away without a voice.

  • Jan Timmons replied

I’d like to show that I can have a voice (with that open part of the gate on the right side) as an adult, but often forget and lapse into the old ways of thinking. Ideas?

  • Cherax

    Cherax

Ah hah, of course. I did note the gap, and that makes sense. So in your story the bars are as much the perception as the reality.

I have observed (glibly) that the world is divided into passengers and pilots, and so many passengers could be pilots if only they were to arise from their seats. Still, knowing some people I’d much prefer they sat quietly in economy class.

This is great, Jan (how could I have missed it before?). I like its symbolism, you are very good in this (maybe better than you know ;))

  • Jan Timmons replied 25 days ago

I didn’t see your kind comment, Lenka. I had just decided to ‘hide’ this from view. Now I guess I won’t hide it, but will work on other ways to add positive emotion to photos, as you do.

I greatly admire your ability to put yourself out there, Jan – so many times when I view your images, I feel as tho as I’m looking into you… you’re very brave.

Thanks for the energizing comment, o’ great Alaskan cyberfriend! Still in Sitka today? Still raining?

Jan, you made me smile by your reply; I’m happy you feel and like the positive emotions I try to capture in my photographs! :)
On the other hand, I often admire works by other photographers who can so wonderfully present less happy moments, and make me think about things. You apparently became one of them!
