Door-to-door bull moose
We often have moose trimming our trees and bushes and walking past the house. This lovely bull moose appeared at the garage door and just kept walking closer. My husband snapped the photo with his D200, while I offered an olive branch.
This is as it was from the RAW image, except for a slight crop of the vehicle to the right.
- Snow! Glorious Snow!! featured 4.30.09 – Thank you! I’ll pass the word to Howard Marsh, my mate-for life, I hope.

Jan Timmons replied
And they trim your trees for you, for free. (Moose, not husbands.) I will tell him you liked it, Christopher. I posted with his permission.

Hey he just wants to visit. See how things are going.hehe Wonderful capture. Beautiful and powerful anima. Hope it is not rut season.
Jan Timmons replied
No, rutting season is in the fall. This is just the time to forage for branches and other munchies.
Al Bourassa
They are so ugly they are beautiful! They stay out of sight in our area.
Jan Timmons replied
An acquired taste, I agree. For the most part, the city lives in harmony.
shallay
Well – what we Australians miss out on! Trust he’s not dangerous – but then, anything large with horns… Did he accept your olive branch?
Jan Timmons replied
Ah, you understood. Didn’t wait around to see.
Carol Barona
Oh my gosh this is so adorable! I would love to have these in my yard! Excellent capture…you don’t even notice the car – eyes are immediately drawn to this beauty!
Jan Timmons replied
I’m not sure a 1600-pound bull has ever been called adorable, but I agree. I do love to see these signs of the wild in the midst of the city. A wonderful reminder of the balance of nature.
MountainHawk
Great shot. I love Moose. Lived in Utah for a couple years and always felt blessed whenever I had a moose encounter. But to have them grazing in my yard….
JamieGreen
Great capture. I would have been shaking too much. Tell your husband he rocks!
Jan Timmons replied
That’s why vibration reduction is such a nice feature.
Michelle Hogan
This is great… Well done…
Karen Betts
Wow i only have the neighbours cats sitting at my door think i would get a fright if i opened my door and was greeted by this..lol great capture.
Sharon Mau
He is magnificent!! He is, what do you think, perhaps two years old? I am so happy to learn you were safe within your house!! It is always a thrill and so rare to see the bulls as they are so wary of humans. I do miss the beautiful Moose!
Steve Buffington
I really cannot get enough of these guys. They are the majestic animals of the Northwest. And friendly?
Jan Timmons replied
I’m friendly; they tolerate us, as long as we don’t threaten their young, or get between rutting males, etc. Yesterday was a lovely three-moose day. Today, not one. Varies.
Magnum1975
Wow. I would have been backing up the other way. I am looking forward to getting so moose shot from our new place. We do not have them here on the island.
hardhhhat
Ha great shot looks like he’s just headbut a snowman. We don’t get these animals in the UK and was surprised how big they can get.
Jan Fijolek
Great catch. Are they visiting often? :-)
Jan Timmons replied
Almost daily. I love it!

And I thought the chihuahua from across the street eating my zinnias was a problem!
Jan Timmons replied
Problems can come in all sizes. I’m sure your aggravation is genuine, but perhaps doesn’t fill the camera frame quite so much. ;)
AmyRalston
WOW …is that scary? I’m sure exciting the first time.

Lora Garcelon
Great capture! We have deer coming right up to our house but never a moose.
Jan Piller
He just needed a place to park his butt for the winter. How great that you can get this close to them. I’ve only ever been this close to them in Algonquin where they’re really tame.
IngridSonja
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooh! A beauty!
cdcantrell
He’s cool,awesome shot
Joanne Bradley
Excellent capture! Just got back from a weekend of camping and I was so hoping to see a bull with a great big rack! This is awesome and in your own backyard!
Rick & Deb Larson
LOL Jan … your hubby did a wonderful job of filling that last spot on his memory card, a beautiful young bull … just ♥ those captures with the snow topped heads (a sure sign that he had recently been at work trimming your trees). Just make sure that your garage door is closed as they have a tendency to just walk right in (been there, experienced that when we lived in Anchorage up Huffman Road .. we could really tell you some moose stories from back then, lol). Take Care ~ Rick & Deb ~ ☺
SylviaHardy
These are so brilliant, absolutely love them!
