Beautiful Jan, what is a crackle? We have been having this bird [ your photo ] around and we thought it was a starling that had left the flock???

heheh Grackle is part of the black bird family (as is the starling) but they are a bit bigger. The juvenile starlings have lot lots of white and blue spots on them whereas the juvenile grackles are just brown and the blue starts to come out around the neck as they mature. These are very smart birds – very resourceful!

Yes Norval – they are common as far north as the great lakes and as far south as Florida from the east coast right over to the central U.S.
