oh Jan! I can’t express how much i love this photo. your bird is just magnificent – i love how the sunlight brings out all the various colours in his feathers which, otherwise, would be eclipsed by the black.
i do feel a little sorry for the ladybug though . . .
Jan Piller replied
thank you hsien-ku! Yes they’re very irridescent birds but you have to catch them in the right light otherwise they just look black. Thanks for your kind comment!

Jan Piller replied
Well how perfect was that ladybug! It was just what I wanted and within two hours of wishing I had it, I got it!
leannasreflect...
it really is perfect and I know my mom was happy to help. I think she feels a little sorry for Lady though. hehe. Cant wait to see what is next from you Jan.
How long did this take you? I wish I could do something like this. Keep shining. :)
Jan Piller replied
This took about 3 to 4 hours total – not including sitting there waiting for the perfect pose from the bird. Which is also staged. The whole vignette is staged – the bird, the branches and the ladybug and the texture – so four images in all. It took about 2 hours for the bird to take the position I wanted. You really should watch me sometime – it’s hilarious the stupid things I do to get what I want. But do you think I could find a ladybug anywhere!!? hahaha I finally had to ask for help.
leannasreflect...
very impressive. I wish I could have such a specific vision. All mine come after the fact.
Angela Churchill
