A Memory of Mine

This image was shot at dawn. I waited on the lake in the dark in my kayak until the sun started to peer over the horizon and the mist I had been kayaking through became evident. The silence was golden. This is the picture I have in my head of that moment, a place I want to return to over and over again.

Thanks Steve – I was in my kayak so I actually kayaked right into the tree and ended up with a kayak full of spiders. I’m a web freak.

Jan Piller replied
Isn’t it pretty Nicole? It was so quiet out there first thing in the morning. The journey in my kayak to get this shot was one of my best ever. I’ve never experienced such peace and I’ve been out many times in early morning, but this morning was exceptional!

I read your portfolio, I know one thing about you, you are an awesome photographer! Excellent lighting and exposure, the fog is awesome, and the ice on the trees is phenomenal!
Jan Piller replied
Thanks John! that’s not ice on the tree though – the shot was taken just as the sun was rising – those are spiderwebs on the tree!
photosbylefty
I realized that it might be spider webs after I submitted the comment! None the less, it makes for a striking image!

Thanks Keleka! I love webs – I’m fascinated by them – maybe I was a spider in a former life hehehe
joak
stunning did you mke any adjustments on this?
Jan Piller replied
No Joak – pretty much as is – I took the kayak out on the lake before the sun even rose – sat there in the darkeness for a bit and then watched as the sun started to break through the fog and it lit up all the spider webs on the tree.

It is great that you were able to capture this moment and also that you knew what you were looking for. The combination of your story with the photo doubles the meaning for me and I appreciate being able to share somewhat in that moment.

A lovely mood rendering winter scenic capture! Winter solitude comes to mind when viewing this beautiful scene! : )
Nuno Pires
nice photo, good composition, focus and DOF and good idea do use B&W =)
Jan Piller replied
Thanks Nuno! But its’ not black and white – it’s colour. The sun was barely up behind the fog – this is pretty much out of camera.
Lois Bryan
So??? Where DID you get your magic wand??? Because surely this image isn’t real!!!! SURELY it’s magic!!!!! Have you seen In Another World group
Jan Piller replied
heheh I love your comments Lois! yes it’s real and pretty much straight out of the camera. I sat in the dark in the early morning in my kayak – just sat there and waited for the sun to rise. It was taken in late august up north when the lakes get all misty in the morning. So I actually shot this straight into the sun (which was barely risen and fighting it’s way through the morning fog) which is why all those spider webs are glowing.
