Dance of the Migration

Southern Ontario, Canada
A flock of birds, it swooped and danced,
Held my gaze while I stood entranced.
They moved as one through the atmosphere
A minuet as they drew near.
Thousands of birds in a flight of grace;
Each tiny bird kept its own place.
The percussion beat of their drumming wings
Keeping time while the multitude sings,
And I can hear them on their stage in the air
A traveling show to who knows where.
Perhaps a summer home, a perch,
A quiet place in a Silver Birch.
An end to the long dance, a place to rest
Where wing and song can pause in a feathered nest.
Dance of the Migration belongs to the following groups:

berndt2
brilliant!
Jan Piller replied
thank you berndt! 3 images stitched – the flock in the background is all one image but the birds in the foreground are two images stitched together as I couldn’t back up far enough to get all the birds in the shot – there was actually about 14 of them lined up along the fence but I could only get 12 in the shot. My husband calls this “cheeper” by the dozen.

Jan, this is gorgeous!!!! Your works are incredible … not just the visual … but straight to the heart as well … and the poem … the funny thing is, I was watching a flock of starlings just the other day, doing EXACTLY what you described … and marveling at it …. and here you go … describing their dance … so beautifully I see it all again in my mind’s eye!!! I guess because of RB’s crash, the main image isn’t coming up, but the smaller image to the right is there … and I’m loving it!!!!
Jan Piller replied
Thanks Lois! They come and go in these huge flock and if you’re not in the right place at the right time you miss them coming and going.
