Thanks for bothering to find out a little more about why I am doing this…
the photography of Andy Berry
Andy is retired from the newspaper and magazine publishing industry where he was more involved in the selection of photographs for publishing and the technical side of their reproduction. While he has had a long love affair with Pentax cameras he embraced the digital era early with a Sony Mavica, moving through a few Fuji Finepix and finally to a Pentax K10. Next will be a k20.
Living on the Surfcoast and regularly visiting his artist sister Janet, who lives near Warrnambool, has given Andy a wealth of subjects to photograph.
His main love is panorama images. Some for their sheer breathtaking scenery; others for their historic value.
One of his favorite panoramas is of Docklands in Melbourne which he took from a friend’s balcony on the 21st floor of Dock Five, in November 2007. Andy printed it onto canvas (45 inches by 15 inches) and it now hangs in his friend’s office at Docklands. “Why would anyone want to have a picture of the view they have every day,” someone asked him. It’s simple: the picture is now history and, as time passes, his friend has a valuable record of the changes that have taken place. The photo is also unique in that it recorded the Steve Irwin the day before it sailed in search of the Japanese whaling fleet. Andy didn’t realise he had captured the boat until he worked on the photos at home.
Picking up the skills of stretching canvas onto frames, Andy has printed many of his works on canvas for friends and takes orders in his local area.
He now wants to make his work available to a wider audience through Redbubble and offers some unique perspectives on some of Australia’s most beautiful and unique scenery.
