Jane Keats

I want to start a website me thinks, but where do I begin??

What do you suggest?
I’d like to get more exposure because I have a lot of time I can now start putting into photography. I know I have lots to learn still, but I’d like to get out there a bit.

I used clikpic – quite good but I’m just playing with it at the moment…
Have a look if you like

That looks cool Jaybe! I like that you can add a playlist to it, too. Does it cost anything to startup? I think I saw a fee in pounds?

How much do you sell time for Jane? Can I buy some hours from you because some days I need more than 24hrs.LOL
I use MD webhosting for my sites. Pretty cheap too. My advice is that you get a real domain name.

Hehe, get your own, mines not for sale!
Thanks Phil, I’ll check MD out too. I was thinking my own domain name would be cool, cos people have trouble with http//: blah blah and it just doesn’t roll off the tongue as well does it…

Hi Jane…I think you need to purchase a domaine name (just do a web search) and a web addy. Once you have that, you can start with a web site you build or that someone else builds. If you build it, it will be around $11 per month (USD) and you can get it from Yahoo or any other major internet player. After that, you have to promote it to search engines so that when people search a word, your site pops up, you make lots and lots of sales, you become rich beyond your wildest dreams (perhaps not your WILDEST, but close) and then you take all of your RB fans out to lunch! Or, you can just sell in here or on eBay. Good luck!

Hehe, thanks Ed, I’ll do some research on this I reckon, thank you for the advice and info! The only thing I’ve sold is rugby shots (which I printed outside of rb) and it’s not that I’m trying to sell my artworks in particular, they are more for my own enjoyment really, but I would like to do photos for people’s functions, etc and stuff. My friend started out doing weddings and I thought, well why not try making a modest income at least from an activity that I really enjoy?

Ahhh Ha…OK, well, I did photography for a while, and if that’s the case, I would suggest you get some practice first, learning the ins and outs of wedding photography…so, do an intership or becomes a photographer’s assistant. There are lots of tricks to wedding photos, and they absolutely must turn out close to perfect…have you thought of that?

Oh yes, I certainly wouldn’t do wedding photos on my own! But I thought I’d start getting some experience (other than tagging along with another photographer) just doing peoples sports events, party’s etc. I’d like somewhere to post them and I don’t think redbubble is the right place.

I would still do the wedding gig. Sports is more like journalism, which doesn’t pay very well at all. At least with weddings, you would be paid fairly welll. Oh, by the way, good morning!

Hi Jane, I use a bit of software called Jalbum with the Fotoplayer skin (google it). It’s a dead easy bit of software and allows you a lot of control over your display and also allows you to sell your images via a Paypal account. The design is very slick and you don’t need to know anything about how it works as it’s all straight forward drag and drop.

I couple that with Joomla (www.joomla.org) which is great if you want to update a site on the fly.

http://www.andydunwoody.com is where you can see Jalbum working.

If you want any more help, just bubblemail me.
