Wash away what once was me
Purify my soul
Like a virgin kite set free
With vistas of pure heaven
The rain beat down with an infinite cleansing, a repetitive drumming on my crown, tattooing my purpose into my brain. Holding my raw and bleeding tattoo, I winced as I fumbled for the key and opened the lock to my heart and mind as an in pouring of molten giving filled an aching chasm. Standing in the shallows I made the choice. My arms stretched outward to a youthful pool of neediness as my feelings went into violent combat and finally I had to draw the sword of my soul and plunge it deep into the ego’s heart. I learned to listen and to teach, to love and to dream. My dream became one to comfort and leave heavenly vistas for the children. My soul was a prisoner to what my forefathers had believed and a hostage to all their fears. A dark inheritance filled with lies, so I took a hammer and chisel to the chains to break them and as they split open I cried out in agony as a thick skin was torn from my body. I blinked in the blinding light and in silence I met a stranger who was colorblind and compassionate, a virgin kite set free. I laughed and I heard the musical sound of many children laughing with me. I will dip my finger in the blood of my purpose and write it on this earth before I leave.

jane, every time i read your stuff i think “oh yes, THIS is my favorite”, and then i read the next one and rinse/repeat. i absolutely loved the resignation to purpose in this piece, the freedom and wings, and the positivity in the message. bless you, beautiful writer.

Love it. The freeing of one’s ego…..the breaking of shackles from the past instilled in us by our forefathers fears…..it’s painfull to break free from belief systems we’ve known all our lives but well worth it if we find our own purpose. At least that’s my understanding of it and it made me say “yeah!” Bring on that rain.

wow, true perfection

That last line Jane – it’s one that will stand the test of time. The entire piece is perfection but that line make it haunting and meaningful. Without purpose, we are nothing really, and if finding that means freeing yourself from past instructions, beliefs, then that’s what has to happen. Simply extraordinary.
