Would Vincent paint this dark night?
There were secrets hanging in the sky that night. He galloped in on a stray nightmare and watched from a distance. There was a somber moodiness, a sultry silence which hung in space. Stars moved away and kept their distance. She was as fragile as rice paper and holding tightly to her mysteries. Even lost kites and a lone butterfly floated in to watch the scythe slash through the planet and sky in a declaration of deadly war. The dreams in her soul jangled as the future tumbled out of the gash in a rush of blue blood, and finally, she submitted. The lights went out and there were fires fighting to light long dead hearts. Vincent sighed and wondered if he should paint this dark night. Then the sky bled music. The book fanned open and the pages swayed together as it was all written (even the most monstrous lies) and somewhere out there it all came to pass. So it was written, so it was done and the music played on. War, the father of death and lies. Peace the memory of living water and the breath of trees and new born babies. How much longer? If only….

Congrats Jane…..for this beautiful tanka verse. I too like Jono had not heard before and it really is a beautiful format of verse… Your execution of this is really remarkable…Being as most of my work is free writing I am awe and inspired by this… I do try format sometimes and really enjoy it…. I have no idea if I could do this….well when I have the pleasure of reading yours…I feel complete I guess..XXX
