I like you, I just don’t like the cage
It is not a nice cage
It is a foul cage
It fills me full of rage

I am always punished for their ill behavior
I meditate and pray for guidance to my savior
I am belittled every day
Some indirect comment or game is there always
I long to be where I can be me, and be free to attain
And long to live without fear and pain

I want to be where my political status isn’t an eternal issue
I want to be where I can be happy instead of perpetually blue
I want to be where I am not a never-ending target
I want to be truly free, not their amaranthine starlet
I want to be truly free to be me
To be me…to be me

And I want to be free to love myself with my flaws
Instead of having them drawn into my side
As they have been by my oppressors with big hairy claws
I want to go where I am allowed to abide
Happily in the natural rain or sunshine
Living my life freely as others do every day
They are not held in endless confine
They are not made to everlastingly pay

I like you, I just don’t like the cage
It is not a nice cage
It is a foul cage
It fills me full of rage
