This won the Sculptures and Statues challenge in the Inspired By LIFE group 12/1/2011.

This is statue of a civil war soldier in a park where I live..Middlebury, Indiana USA. You can see how the elements have sandblasted it over the years. digital shot in black and white. Shot with fujifilm finepix S1000 fd camera. Shot under overcast skies…8/1/2010.

“What we’ve got here is failure to communicate.
Some men you just can’t reach…
So, you get what we had here last week,
which is the way he wants it!
Well, he gets it!
N’ I don’t like it any more than you men.” *

Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they’ve always done before

Look at the hate we’re breeding
Look at the fear we’re feeding
Look at the lives we’re leading
The way we’ve always done before

My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can’t deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars

D’you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said “Peace could last forever”
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can’t trust freedom
When it’s not in your hands
When everybody’s fightin’
For their promised land

And
I don’t need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin’ soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain’t that fresh
I don’t need your civil war

Look at the shoes your filling
Look at the blood we’re spilling
Look at the world we’re killing
The way we’ve always done before
Look in the doubt we’ve wallowed
Look at the leaders we’ve followed
Look at the lies we’ve swallowed
And I don’t want to hear no more

My hands are tied
For all I’ve seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of God or human rights
’Cause all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars

“We practice selective annihilation of mayors
And government officials
For example to create a vacuum
Then we fill that vacuum
As popular war advances
Peace is closer” **

I don’t need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
Your power hungry sellin’ soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain’t that fresh
And I don’t need your civil war
I don’t need your civil war
I don’t need your civil war
Your power hungry sellin’ soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain’t that fresh
I don’t need your civil war
I don’t need one more war

I don’t need one more war
Whaz so civil ’bout war anyway

I love to capture photos of everything. My favorite things to take photos of are nature, fall, and big cats. I hope one day big cats can be free to roam again. They deserve to be free like us.

I am with you in that as lives are being wasted all the time, and a million tears we shed, good on you friend, you have my vote on love not war always N.J.

  • Not enough people feel this way, all they care about is themselves. That is another reason why the world is so screwed up. Thank you for this my friend.

Very cool capture of this statue. I was recently in Gettysburg and the site of these memorials in person is very powerful and sobering. I also happen to love the G n R song!

  • Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.

Fantastic shot, sentiment, and song. Coming from a military family, I can say from personal experience that war is not worth the sacrifice. My Dad is a decorated veteran from both the Korean and Viet Nam Wars and what it did to him mentally and physically is just not worth it. My Mother suffered unbearably while he was gone. My Dad missed the first 3 years of my life while fighting in Korea. He missed my senior year of high school and missed my graduation because he was in Viet Nam. And what good did all that accomplish? I truly believe that wars are fought to make the rich richer, and basically for no other reason. Thank you for this wonderful piece. I can tell you that it certainly meant alot to me. If you want a real eye opener about our government, please be sure to read Jessie Ventura’s book called, “Lies, Lies, & More Dirty Lies Our Government Tells Us”. Nice work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • War is exactly how you put it. Our government is such a joke. All they care about is putting money in their pocket..that is why this great country of ours is SO screwed up. I am going to get that book too. Thank you so much my friend..☺

Please be sure to bmail me and tell me what you think of the book after you read it. I would love to know your opinion. It covers everything from the Kennedy asassination coverup to 9/11 and the bank bail outs. I tell you that you will never be the same after you read it.

  • It will probably not surprise..The government covers up a lot of things and I NEVER believe anything they say..ha ha. I will after I read it..thank you..☺

  • This country is SO screwed up. I am proud to be an american, but things need to be fixed. It ticks me some of the stupid things that go on in this country. Thanks Lacey..glad you could feel from this. That is what I try to do with my work. That really means a lot..☺☺
