I photographed this dignified woman in turquoise in Chefchaouen, Morocco, and was compelled to paint her. Every wrinkle on her face parallels the folds in her veil…. each line tells a story, be it a hardship, a triumph, a loss, or a joy. Her eyes shine brightly, despite the fact that most of her features remain concealed… and although she makes no sound, her presence hangs in my mind months later.
I have always been fascinated by elderly people across the world, the wisdom they possess, and the respect they deserve.
