I’m a Detroit girl who has since moved to France… When I brought my French boyfriend (now husband) to the United States (his first time), we came across this street musician playing the bugle… Seeing the saxophone case on my husband’s back, he called to him and asked him to jam. The two bonded over Charlie Parker, and literally caused traffic to come to a standstill. By the end of the song, his jar was filled with appreciation from passers-by. I will never forget how music created an unforgettable bond between two countries, and hope that on my next visit to Detroit, I will find and give this painting to this wonderful guy.
