Now here’s a challenging pen and ink sketch from a while ago. The Grand Canyon in Arizona is of such huge scale, luscious colors and great atmospherics that to attempt a small pen and ink sketch seemed silly… but hey, back then without a camera, but always my trusty 5 × 8 Canson sketchbook what other choice did I have. There are a lot of the icon south rim details on the right side of the drawing; the El Tovar Hotel tower, the flag flying by the rim and the wooden guest quarters closer yet. And, no it doesn’t show the canyon depth or the Colorado river at the bottom.

In 2013 I’m taking many of my previous RB art into Photoshop and making changes to load as other product types. I usually leave the original loaded art as is, yet am enjoying the process of making alterations.

arizona, southwest, usa, america, grand canyon, south rim, pen and ink, canson, sketchbook, colorado river, experimental, fun, lovely, d light, james lewis hamilton, red bubble, bing, google, artistic, wow, wonderful, unique, challenging, nature, natural, post card, framed print, edge, features, black and white, iphones, ipads, cellphones, smartphones, cases, covers, icovers, photoshop, arizona tees, az, hiking tees, fantastic, extraordinary, love tees, love stickers

A persona who has apparently lived a relatively long, varied and eclectic life. My Red Bubble portfolios reflect my seeming persona… and IF there’s any veracity to these reflections then some sense of HUMOUR and enjoyment should be PRESENT!

Nice sketch…captured the shape of rocks and erosion and the layer effect!

  • thank you Cindy… I was sitting on a comfy rock not far from the edge myself that allowed me to get this view back toward the lodge… while my friends took a further hike I happily sat there and scribbled away!

great sketch James reminds me of Malham Cove in Yorkshire UK where I went trekking once

  • Yes, lovely I’m sure… me I’ve never been much of a trekker… I suppose my sketch may have started as as excuse… to not trek! HA… now I just carry my little point and shoot camera… and honestly say no thank you to anything too strenuous!
