This ‘heart-breakingly beautiful’ Italian Lady sat across from me in a Firenze Trattoria. I’d just finished a delicious bowl of Ribollita and was reaching for my pens and sketchbook. She fixed me with her ‘gaze amore’, melting my Scottish heart… AND I felt the temperature of the North Sea, home of my ancestors, rise… and imagined the Scots pulling off their Wellingtons and dashing into the new temperate waters with naked abandon!
AHHH! She’d brought me to her native land on our honeymoon. Part Venetian, part Neopolitan and a lot of Sicilian… thank goodness her gaze didn’t burn up my “tru-rite Sketch Diary” and dry up my Staedtler pigment liner pens.
Instead I drew with total fascination, including the palm leaves of the potted plant behind her.
In PSE I experimented with composing this sketch into an oval format on the new RB 2:3 card layout. I can’t tell from the white background of the ‘RB for buy card image’ if the top of the card was trimmed and amount of space may no longer be equal at top and bottom of the oval.
