I don’t know what it is about New york City’s water towers on top of so many of their buildings that fascinate me,,, maybe that in all the bustle and modernity the fact most of them appear to be made of wood and old fashioned technology makes the City more approachable. This pen and ink drawing, done in my Canson sketchbook , I did while Diane ducked into a shop behind me and got a cuppa coffee.

I suppose they go back to the time when coal and ice was delivered to the apartments and the lights were gas.You captured a monument to to tough times and tough people.I grew up with some of their stories. But they sure didn’t like to talk about it much. Jeff.
  • AND, you get another ‘point’ while commenting… today’s pen and ink add will be another scene altogether…

I love these old towers as well…perhaps it’s the rustic quality of the material that appeals to me.
Contrarily, the newer fangled metal-clad hold no fascination.
    Peace,
    sass

  • yes, the old tanks can seem so quaint… even approachable… in a city full of so many amazingly dazzling new buildings and details.
    thanks,
    James
