NYC-Rooftop view from The Peninsula by

Featured in “Sketching and Drawings” group 1-14-12

This is a view up 5th Avenue I drew while sipping a beer in the Peninsula Hotel’s roof terrace bar. It’s a pen and ink, drawn in my Canson sketch book during our Nov. 2000 trip to New York City. I was experimenting in drawing a composition that would capture the feel view including the perspective presentation from above.

A persona who has apparently lived a relatively long, varied and eclectic life. My Red Bubble portfolios reflect my seeming persona… and IF there’s any veracity to these reflections then some sense of HUMOUR and enjoyment should be PRESENT!
‘Ola!’ ;~}}}

    love love love this sketch, james…. so awesome… : )

  • Now I’ve been carrying around a digital camera and can and do just snap away… but with a sketch there’s more commitment… more real looking to see where and what sketch to draw. Thanks for the encouraging comment… ; – )

    great perspective James, an excellent drawing!

  • It was fun to find myself UP (so high) and with such a long view down to and down 5th Ave. There’s always so much detail… and deciding when to quit is an interesting process… of course sometimes one’s partner can help with; “You about ready to leave?”
    hahaha fun memories in these sketches. ; – )))

    I love the perspective on this. That you actually did this “live” and not from a photo makes it even more special.

  • I’ve only ever done LIVE… I didn’t own a camera until last year… I’ve thought about doing Photoshop sketching over some photos… but thank goodness my bubble activities keep me from THAT!
