This won a top ten in a challenge in the “If It Doesn’t Belong” group in early 2010.
This painting was inspired by a trip to Port Antonio on the north east corner of the island of Jamaica in 1966. At the time it was an experiment in painting my impression of what paradise meant to me. The work of Paul GAUGUIN always zapped me… and here was my moment and inspiration.
It’s painted on a 24″ × 32″ piece of Masonite using the water base house paints and colorants I could afford at the time.
I made as few changes when getting it ready as possible, but there were a few color enhancements to fix the fade of age.
