An acrylic painting 36″ × 48″ with layers of Golden metallic and purple transference paints. They make this original glow in totally different ways depending on the light and angle of view.
I remember this painting started as an experiment of pouring very liquid metallic paints on the laid flat canvas. Then I tipped it around… and then realized I had way too much paint on the surface and began to frantically ‘pull’ it off the edge to puddle on the drop cloth. It made a most interesting under painting effect, which you can see in the upper left corner. It was also a very late night venture, insomnia night crawling isn’t new behavior for me!
The image is constantly changing its nuances, like a good friend or lover.

A persona who has apparently lived a relatively long, varied and eclectic life. My Red Bubble portfolios reflect my seeming persona… and IF there’s any veracity to these reflections then some sense of HUMOUR and enjoyment should be PRESENT!

Wonderful piece— i love using interference paints too.
Thank you… I visited your work and can see those luminous colors/paints. Any suggestions of how to better translate them into a photo and thus onto RB?

this is fabulous… i thought it was good when i thought you did it on the computer… but when i read that it was a painting… it went from good to FANTASTIC!! it really turned out grrrrrrrreat!
Thank you so much for your enthusiastic comment. Painting can be such a discovery process… your comment reminded me of the very messy beginning to this painting… ah, but it evolved.

beautiful :) i would love to see the visual effects that you speak of
in the original i mean :)
Dan,
The effects of “Interference” and some “iridescent” acrylic paints is that they ‘appear’ and ‘disappear’ under different lighting or different viewing angles. You can see some of this effect on the above image, the blue striping on the right hand side of the painting is actually uniform across the whole painting, but the angle and lighting of the camera only picked them up on that side. The effect that doesn’t come through is how walking past it has the effect of ‘motion’ as the visible images changes. I don’t think there is any Photo-shop component that can mimic this trait.
