I’ve decided this is a valid RB ‘card’ design because it may communicate the concept of a simple, more grounded (earthier) faith to some one who might never see the actual chapel, but get this essence.

In Tucson, Arizona the most well known local artist is Ted DeGrazia. He died in the early ’80’s but his Gallery in the Sun, at his rustic desert foothills property still thrives and is now a tourist attraction.

They allow other artists to have shows at their “Little Gallery” and it’s there with my new mother-in-law that we shared a show in 1997, with her marble sculptures and my pen & ink sketches of Boulders of the Dragoon mountains.

There was lots of spare time while ‘sitting’ our show, so a series of DeGrazia Gallery sketches were made. This one is of the rustic adobe, mostly roofless, chapel Ted built years before.

Sentimentally the building holds great meaning for me, as it does for many. Diane and I were married there in ‘98 and Adele’s memorial service was held there a few years later.

I’ve seen lots of renditions of this picturesque chapel (including photos I’ve taken), but this is the best. It captures the quirkiness of DeGrazia’s art perfectly.

  • Linda, What a lovely compliment. I’ve been admiring your photos, so your words mean even more. TYhank you.

excellent work – I don’t know why, but it makes me happy to look at it!

  • Maybe because it is a very happy place. Diane and I were married there… and maybe not so happy, more simply moving, we had her mother’s memorial service there, too.

Hi James I do like this one very much with the detail and how wonderful to have a show there….happy memories and also sad ones by the sounds of it…a lovely drawing.

  • Thanks Linda,
I had the time during the art show to get to know the building… and even more time for sketching it.

you’re most welcome James (big smile) and yes one a week is just not enough! (grin)

  • I know, I know… but you’ve trained my eye so I can’t accept anything but an appropriately formatted and presented card… certainly don’t want to hassle you anymore with having to reject my stuff! ;-)))

(smile) thank you for that (big smile)

  • You are welcome. My sense is that there are not many who come to RB to understand what its full potential, really what its requirements are, in order to best present our (so called) best work. You’ve decided (IMHO) to hold the ‘high ground’, and that’s not likely to bring immediate (or ever) real appreciation. (slightly sad smile) So please accept my simple ‘thank you’ and at the same time forgive me for being like many (with time constraints and excuses) for not producing more well presented art.
    (Now a big smile!)

thank you James for your kinds words (big smile)

  • You are welcome… but even with all I’ve learned from you there is one lesson that’s very clear… I’ll never really compete with all your smiles!
