A few years back while climbing around the rocks of the Dragoon Mountains in southeastern Arizona. I looked up at a monolith rock face and saw what looked like a giant hand. I quickly got out my sketch book and pen, found a perch, and began to draw.
At one point I needed to shift, so grasped my book with my left hand, my thumb pinching down firmly so not to drop the book. Once settled I realized my thumb had pressed into the illustrator marker color and left a perfect thumb print. I laughed at the detail of such an art signature, added my name over top, and finished the sketch.
The name came to me in the same fit of humor… liking the juxtaposition of God’s hand and a double meaning for the word “Bluff”.
I drew this in my 5.5″×8.5″ Canson sketch book while in the field. Late long hours have been involved… but hey, I’m retired from the work-a-day world… so I can join the work-a-night-crawler world! ; – ))))
