    Lol ….. I apologize for chuckling but when I saw the gears and the spikes that was my first thought even tho I know it is not the correct answer. Things like that used to be be in old movies.

    I reckon i am going to have to give this one to you. It is not actually time related, but yes it is a mechanism that rings bells! Not in at a particular time, but in a particular order depending on how the machine is set up, as a handle on one end is turned.
