i took this photo several months ago in my front garden (s.e queensland, australia) and when i uploaded it on to my lappy, i just breezed past it. i revisited the same folder a couple of weeks ago and felt like i was seeing it for the first time. the more i looked at it, the more moods i could see, but i couldn’t decide on which one to try and produce. in the end, my love of literoom and photoshop (albeit an absolute novice in both) took over and i arrived at 5 images that i am really pleased with in their own individual rights.
with this third image i enhanced the contrast to 100% in literoom, then desaturated it in photoshop before history brushing the fly and the berry back in.
taken with a nikon d5000 / af-s dx nikkor 18-55mm (lens came as standard when i bought the camera. next investment is a macro/zoom lens) f/5.6, 1/60sec, iso 640 information added subsequent to ben’s question

Wow, a great shot in the first place but the selective colour approach has worked really well to highlight your subject., fantastic! – What sort of camera/lens combo was this taken with?

  • thank you for your great comment ben, i’m really pleased with this image. taken with a nikon d5000 / af-s dx nikkor 18-55mm (lens came as standard when i bought the camera. next investment is a macro/zoom lens) f/5.6, 1/60sec, iso 640

Great use of SC Gary! I tend to hang onto shots just in case. I really just get tough and just delete stuff so that its not taking up room in the computer. I strongly recommend the 105mm VR Micro Nikkor, its pretty cool :)

  • hey thanks for that missyd. i’m a real down-sizer by nature, i don’t really hoard anything. however, i have learned with photography to never hit the delete key! i would love that nikkor lens but budget wouldn’t stretch. however, my partner bought me a lovely tamron 70-300mm zooom which also has a macro facility albeit not true 1:1 but i love it all the same:-)
