To My Earth

you threw my heart together at warp speed,
my headphones and the knives
stuffed in my pockets
getting tangled with the crusted balm
you spread on my skin
that smells of almonds
left out in the sun
and the sweetness of strawberries.
you packed
shiny magazine covers slick
with spit
like paper-mâché hand grenades
into the slit
between my layers of skin
and tore down the moon
to give me breath
which soaks up morning moisture
and then dissipates like a school of fish.
you filled my body with tumbling triplets,
trapping my ears in a net of feeling
that holds me tight like ecstasy
and fills my mind
with mountaintop rhymes
and silent screams in G minor.
you tied my hands soaked
with rain-
water to my eyes
to block out the sun
while the dredges of the world
were spun into cloth
to keep me warm
between the rifts
of beautiful,
beautiful snow. you thought
I was full of the world, until
the night I let you undress
my bandages slowly and see the scars
of emptiness, the holes
and the wholeness floating downriver:
the night
I was stripped of dirt
and found my heart was empty
and light as paper
blowing away
in the wild winter wind.
