the burning of men

i once almost killed a man
he was a child rapist
did it matter then?

I was young
unaccustomed to the world
of men
to know their deep desires of their soul

i broke in his face
and had my fingers pressed into his eyesockets
if he had given up hope
my fingers would surely burst into his head

people held me back and finally pulled me away
from reaping my sense of justice
my eyes were filled with fire
raging
burning with hate

i met then
the true heart of darkness
i went in there too
lost
without a torch
but people luckily found me

surely if i had of killed him
would i no doubtly be as bad as him?

and so i left
the lives of man
and their dark desires

it took many years
to return to civilisation
to build on hope
that man’s intention can be pure

i understand a little bit now
but i will never understand

the burning of men
