that moment

i learn to live
to respect
to honour
to live life

that’s why i went away
to fight for the rights of others
those who were weaker
people who could depend on me
or maybe i wanted to hide from my own story
let the old person die
be someone else
someone new

i was taken to the furthest places
the dark places
the heart of darkness
and of men
i knew i’d get lost

i’ve seen death and disaster
torture, rape, massacre
things that make you numb
things people don’t want to see
don’t listen to my stories
the glam of television is better

i’ve had machetes pointed at me
guns fired at me
a cracking of bone from a butt of an AK
but i smile
blood dripping from a busted jaw
just for a thing called
a moment

where everything is nothing
and nothing is everything
a smile
a laughter
life
these are the times you are the greatest
nothing matters then and now

maybe i’ll never reach my full potential
maybe i live a different life from you
but we all have our moments so cherish every one of them
the moment

that moment
