Many Fires
Taken from the viewing spot near the village of Kaimu, close to what was Kalapana. The "Chain of Craters Road" used to come out over here somewhere I think before it was obliterated at this end be a previous flow. The clouds glow red from the lava rivers here. We were told a new fountain had broken open this day (one of the sources of the right glow). I could also easily see constellations to -40 or -50 degrees from this vantage. There’s nothing quite like witnessing the creative force so raw and up close. This is about a mile from the point where the flow reached the ocean (left glow). A guy was selling really nice glossies of the action from about 50 feet away. He got a special press permit to achieve that. I’m so jealous…
