Balloon Pop Frozen In Time
Examples of popping a ballon and capturing the exact moment of the explosion.
These images were shot using a Nikon D200 and a flash that I modified to accomodate a sound trigger built from scrap parts I had laying around. Setup was on a black felt backdrop. I set my D200 to self timer mode with f11, ISO400 and a 1 sec. exposure. I had a dim back light so I didnt trip over anything. I set the flash near the balloon setup with the sound trigger close by, but kept it out of the frame. I used a remote shutter cable to auto focus, and turned out the main lights. I pressed the shutter release and the 2 sec. countdown started. When I heard the shutter open, I poped the balloon with a pin. The flash fires when it hears the pop and exposes the frame for only the instant that the light is available. Then shutter closes immediatly after.
Viola, a really neat shot!
I’m willing to answer any questions you have regarding the electronics, (really simple for this one).
Now I’m working on a super sensitive trigger that will trigger on very slight sounds like a water drop in a bowl of water. I will use a microcontroller for this project because I want to add a digital display, multiple trigger methods, like light, sound, motion, magnetic switches, and a adjustable delay timers for the flash.
Ill post them when I complete it.
