Mirrored Expressions 1 - Self Portrait by

At the end of a long photo-shoot, i turned my camera to my mirror, using only the vanity bulbs for light and started making faces in the mirror and experimenting with various angles. I love working in a simplistic fashion after a long, complicated photo-shoot. It is a great way to wind down. I liked the result of this one and decided it was a keeper.

The camera i am holding is a cheap point and shoot. I would love to have a professional camera, but it is not within my means, so i make do. It is not the camera that makes the photographer, it is what a person does with the tools at hand. This dinky little camera, continues to serve me well, creatively.

Posing is a lot like architecture…

I’m a self-taught photographic artist. My art explores my
internal landscapes, wherein, i explore; survivor issues, spirituality and sexuality. Much of my work is comprised of self-portraits. My intent with my creations is to be one of the connecting threads in the universal fabric we share.

What an honor for the camera to be used by a great photographer !! The composition and colors are perfectly balanced ! :))

  • Thank you, so much, Michel! The vanity lighting was surprisingly good!

Photography is not about cameras, gadgets and gizmos. Photography is about photographers. A camera didn’t make a great picture any more than a typewriter wrote a great novel.

I hope you don’t mind me saying so, dear muse, but you have a very beautiful neck♥
Gorgeous photo, love the colors and angel!

  • Thank you, Heather :). I need to do new angles. I think as photographers we can easily get stuck on the using angles we prefer, the tried and true. So i am being conscious of trying new angles and experimenting more. I do have a long neck and i thank you for noticing and love the compliment! ♥ XXO

A very simple concept which works beautifully. I don’t have a professional camera either so your comments are quite apposite. Great tease by the way!

  • Thank you, Adam :).Sometimes simple is best.

I use a Canon point and shoot camera very similar to that one on my walks for photos that I post on Google Earth. I have been rather impressed with the results that I get. Cameras are merely a tool. The quality of a photograph comes from the vision and skills of the photographer. i have done some exploration of your artwork. And I am thouroughly convinced that you are a photographer that has a strong vision of finding the beauty within yourself and considerable skills in expressing that vision.

  • An Elph 1200 SD IS, yes, Chris. “The quality of the photograph comes from the vision and skill of the photographer… you are a photographer that has a strong vision of finding the beauty within yourself and considerable skills in expressing that vision. You have that vision and skill.” <—Thank you :)
