Folding In - Self Portrait

Jaeda DeWalt

Seattle, United States

Artist's Description

This SP is a physical representation of what happens to me when i spend too much time in my head, focused on things in the past or things in the future. When i lose sight of the present, i fold in on myself, mentally, and my thoughts become toxic and distorted, my emotions darken…
ABOUT THIS IMAGE:
I don’t remember what type of film i shot this with, i threw a dark sheet up against the wall in my hallway, dragged my halogen lamp into the hallway and lit myself from one side and photographed myself using a self-timer shutter release. I took hundreds of pictures in this pose, which is a yoga stretch i do when warming up for my workout. The variances in each pose were subtle but i wanted to make sure i had plenty of options to choose from i really wanted to get the lighting and posing just right.
ARCHIVES:
Some of you may find this image familiar, it is very similar to the image, “Contortion”. This was shot as part of the same series. I liked the lighting and pose in this photograph, just a little better than the previous one. So in a way, i resurrected, “Contortion” from the archives and gave it a new name, new meaning.
