Halloween - We Are Family by

I felt like creating a spooky family portrait for Halloween, something strangely compelling and packed with personal meaning. My “real life” family relationships are limited. I am the outsider, the misfit. I’ve been redefining what family is, for most of my life. The mannequins represent my blood family, not out of reach, but somewhat detached. My cat and birdie boy are my precious heart family along with my amazing friends. I never take myself too seriously!! Having a sense of humor makes the sadder moments in life, more bearable. Enjoy this quirky bow to Halloween. Please click, SHOW FULL DESCRIPTION to view details on how this image was created.

HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:
This image is as it was straight from the camera minus some color/level adjustments and the cat. My cat i pasted in from another picture because i could not get her to cooperate! LOL I decided as long as i was pasting her in, i might as well scale her to be almost as big as the mannequins. I like the way it looks with my cat out of proportion to my bird and myself.

The bag i never intended to use creatively, but i am glad i had it around to use… i needed a laundry bag, this one was only a dollar. It was folded up in a plastic package when i purchased it, so I didn’t realize, until i opened it, that it was a novelty/humor item. When i was preparing for the shoot the bag came to mind and i thought it would be strangely funny to cram the laundry bag with as many mannequin limbs, as i could.

I’m gonna make mannequin costume & drive North a bit and go trick or treating in your hood just to see the look on your face when you answer the door… ;)

  • Don’t be surprised if a limbless mannequin and warbling wild dove, greet you at the door with strange offerings… LOL
