The Petal is an image taken from photographic artist, Jaeda DeWalts, Floral Fatalities series. Image photographed with a digital camera, held out at arms length, overhead.

ABOUT THIS IMAGE:
Image was inspired by a beautiful bouquet of flowers i received, yesterday. Along with the autumn inspired bouquet was an exquisite array of Godiva chocolates. I wanted to celebrate that romantic moment, by capturing it in photographic form. I had an excruciating migraine when i shot this series. I found it impossible to remove the agony from my face. Most of the images in this series have a bit of tension to them, even though my intial intent was do something timeless, dreamy and romantic.

I titled this image, “The Petal” for the singular petal the camera captured, just off to the side of my body. Rose petals are soft, supple, delicate and easily broken. I feel some strange metaphorical connection to them, hence the title.

The series title, “Floral Fatalities” came about when i was unwrapping my bouquet from the box and carefully removing the petals that were bruised in transit. I hated to waste them, so i kept them and photographed them. You will see a lot of them, later in this series.
