The Emotional Drowning - Self Portrait by

The Emotional Drowning is an image taken from photographic artist, Jaeda DeWalts, Floral Fatalities series. Image photographed with a digital camera, held out at arms length, overhead.

ABOUT THIS IMAGE:
Image was inspired by a beautiful bouquet of flowers i received, yesterday. Along with the autumn inspired bouquet was an exquisite array of Godiva chocolates. I wanted to celebrate that romantic moment, by capturing it in photographic form. I had an excruciating migraine when i shot this series. I found it impossible to remove the agony from my face. Most of the images in this series have a bit of tension to them, even though my intial intent was do something timeless, dreamy and romantic.

I am deeply intuitive and empathetic, i can’t help but key into the emotive atmospheres of others. My inability to safeguard myself from the emotions of others, often leaves me feeling as if i am emotionally drowning. There are no natural barriers around me, no boundaries, no walls… i suppose they were torn down in my early childhood.

The series title, “Floral Fatalities” came about when i was unwrapping my bouquet from the box and carefully removing the petals that were bruised in transit. I hated to waste them, so i kept them and photographed them. You will see a lot of them, later in this series. The fabric i am draped in, came from the packaging contained in the box the flowers were wrapped in…

Special thanks to the person that inspired this spontaneous creation and series :).

HOW THIS IMAGE WAS CREATED:
I carefully covered myself with the iridescent sheer fabric, tossed some fresh rose petals on top and carefully reach for the camera with my right arm, held it overhead and photographed this self-portrait.

It is so rare that a surreal image comes straight from my camera. I got so lucky with this one. I cropped it, did a color and level correct and that’s it! It was ready to post :).

    (Hope you’re feeling better now.)

I love the soft focus and the movement within. That while the title is emotional drowning that this is freeing you above the emotions and washing away. xo

  • Thank you, Draven, i agree there is a liberation that comes with the expression of emotions, especially the ones that tether us to our pain. I see you faved it :). Thanks Draven! HUGS XOXO

Is beautifully done………im trying to do a calendar, but i dont seem to be able to get all my images to come up when scrolling to add to a month, any suggestions?

  • That is strange? I’ve been doing calendars all day and didn’t have that issue. The images all came up for me. It would be a pain to do, but you could re-upload the images you wish to use in your calendar and mark them private with the title of the calendar in front of the title for each image so you could easily identify them from the rest and then those private images could be selected for your calendar. That might be a way around it. Or try posting your issue in the RB help forum. Maybe someone else is experiencing a similar problem. I re-scale my calendar images to completely cover all the space in the calendar pages. So all of my calendar images are uploaded privately, re-titled for the calendar and then selected for use in the calendar. They post beautifully when done this way, but it is a lot of extra work! Hope this helps and sorry i couldn’t be of better assistance to you, Michael.

This is really excellent work Lady “J”! The title is appropriate to your facial expression and the way you pulled it all together gives one the impression that they are right there within your thoughts and emotions. It also has a bit of a retro feel… Fabulous work my brilliant and beauiful friend! XOXO

  • Thank you, Leon :). I thought it had a bit of a retro feel, as well and am happy to know this creation pulls the viewer into my emotive atmosphere. Love and Light to you my poetic friend. XOXO

Flowers have a special presence in a room, a sense of occasion,
    which you’ve captured here;
    in this instance, bridal regalia,
and you’re drowned in the truly emotional significance, you honour it
beautifully – the balance of face, fabric, flowers a work of art.

  • “Bridal Regalia” i like that, Del :). Thank you for your thoughtful and beautifully worded response to this image. Love that last alliteration… face, fabric, flowers :). XO

Radiant, romantic and powerfully beautiful my lovely friend Jaeda. The colours are superb as is the composition.

  • Thank you, so very much, Anthea :). I’ve been drawn to warmer hues as of late and romantic aesthetics with a timeless allure. Amazing how life pulls us in new directions, creatively. XOXO precious muse!
