Emotional Death Sentence - Self Portrait by

Emotional Death Sentence was taken from photographic artist, Jaeda DeWalt’s, Dark Dreams Rising series and is a part of the DeWalt Gallery collection.

This image is based on a dream i had. In the dream i was at the bottom of an illuminated escalator going up into nothingness. To my right, i saw several different versions of me in frozen poses, looking still and stoic, like display mannequins. To the left of me was another escalator going down, where i saw several people with hollow faces staring at me.

What does the dream mean?
I think the escalator going down could represent the dark things in my subconscious that i am repressing and don’t want to face.

The mannequinish versions of me could represent feeling stuck, frozen in my life, unable to move forward. They could also represent an inability to express myself in the ways i need to, to be healthy.

The faceless people could represent my lack of identity, or being disconnected from the darker more painful aspects of my self. I’m not too certain about that…

It was a beautiful dream visually and a kind of sad and creepy dream, emotively. It definitely stayed with me, long after i woke up.

I’m a self-taught photographic artist. My art explores my
internal landscapes, wherein, i explore; survivor issues, spirituality and sexuality. Much of my work is comprised of self-portraits. My intent with my creations is to be one of the connecting threads in the universal fabric we share.

Dreams are a powerful push in life and art and you have used that element very, well! Inspiring and love the composition of “you” flowing toward the escalator and outwards!

  • I agree, Draven and i love the way you use dream imagery in your creations :). Thank you XO
