Oh my God, Jason, this is the absolute best and most awesome swan pic I’ve ever seen, you know how I love birdies… These little babies are so soft and cuddly looking in the HDR, and the mummy is beautiful.., and the daddy, if that’s him in the front right, wow, he’s amazing. Everything about this pic just makes me want to run out and find swans to cuddle… ;-) This is just awesome in every way Jason, lucky you to come upon these adorable beauties..

It’s easy, the mummy is always a tiny bit different looking, and the daddy, well, he’s huge, noisy, bossy, puffed up, and totally in love with people taking his photo. I’d say he’s pretty much a regular bloke in every way..

  • Jason Connolly replied

The HDR works so nicely here to bring out the colors and tones and just make everything pop. It doesn’t hurt that your subjects are incredibly cute as well. :) I love the way the parents are looking at the cygnets with such pride.

I forgot to mention how gorgeous the cygnets are .

    Hi Jason,

Great shot, the poses and grouping of the swans could hardly be better, however I do have a couple of suggestions with the post processing…..

The swans look a little “muddy” to me as a result of the HDR treatment, and the whole image appears to be a little dark.

If it was mine I would use levels in Photoshop to increase the brightness of the midtones, and also turn the saturation up.

I would then clone away the camper van in the background, it distracts the eye, and possibly also remove the front left cygnet which seems to unbalance the family group a little, and also because it is laying down looks too lifeless compared to the others.

I’ve tested this out (hope you don’t mind) and to me it looks better, but as always it’s personal taste of course. If you want to see my edited version then I can post it for you…

    Best wishes, Thomas.

  • Jason Connolly replied

Hi Thomas, thanks for the critique and suggestions, i’ll give them a try and see what it turns out like, not sure about binning the front left sygnet but I’ll try it..
Glad you like the rest of it though LOL:-)
