The Fine Art of Power-napping (or...When I grow up I want to be just like my Nana!) by

This shot of me and little bit was taken by my daughter-in-law. This is not something I likely would have posted, if not for being enticed by a challenge, however I like this particular shot on so many levels…

Annabelle is at that age where she is aware of everything…and you can see those little wheels in her head just a spinning as she takes it all in. She

bangs on pots and pans (we call it “making biscuits”) while I am at the stove; she empties the dishwasher almost as fast as I load it; she digs in the dirt while I weed and on and on and on it goes. I watch while she learns and I teach her everything I know…including it seems…the fine art of ‘power-napping.’

More than any other photo (and there are many!) I think this photo shows how truly close cupcake and I are. More than any other, this is the one to me that shows our special bond. There is another reason I like this photo…when I look at it, I cannot help but think about the birth of a mountain range…

When I was young I grew up in one of the most spectacularly beautiful places on earth. It was a place surrounded by folklore and mountains. I recall a legend my mother would tell me about how certain mountain ranges were believed to be formed by sleeping giants…giants who wearily laid down to rest and never got up again. Sometimes if you looked hard enough you could still see the outline of their bodies along the skyline.

A day will come when I will show Annabelle this photo and tell her the legend of the sleeping giants and of the stunning beauty of the Alaskan wilderness where I spent a good portion of my youth. It is my hope and belief she will grow up appreciating all that we are given in this life and that she will cherish and take care of this wonderful place we call earth.

In case anyone is wondering…I’m the one on the left! Taken with HP Photosmart p&s. PP in GIMP

Congratulations on the well deserved feature!!!!!! If this is a challenge, which I know nothing about, this is sure a winner. This is not only adorable, but she looks just like you. In fact in the photo, with her lying on your arm, she looks like an extenstion of you. I love your story. No wonder both of you are tired. It has been a hard day both of you taking care of each other. I am loving this. Thanks for sharing.
    xoxo Iris

  • Thank you so much for your kind remarks. I am so glad you enjoyed this image. She certainly does feel like an extension of me, I feel almost lost when she is not around…lol! And yes, I too like that our resemblance shows in this photo. As the saying goes, “She is the apple of my eye!”

A beautiful and loving image … just ♥’d reading the accompanying story (and your round about mention of Sleeping Lady, aka Mt Susitna). One day your little Cupcake is going to love and cherish this image and the stories from your time up here in Alaska. Take Care ~ Rick & Deb ~ ☺

  • Thank you so much for your lovely comment! How I envy you your location…I hope to be able to revisit one day and see Mt Susitna and the many other sights again! In the meantime I have to enjoy through the eyes of others.
