Orange Buddha
The original image was an oil painting that I did for a Christmas present. Another friend loved it so much she wanted it as a logo for her business. I’ve redrawn it and changed the colours in photoshop to give it more graphic look.

Having seen you colored Buddha series have you thought of joining them together into a one image of twelve panels (4panels across three down pattern) with a different color representing/emotion/wisdom for every month.

I always wondered why these fat Buddhas are laughing. Then once, while I was deep in meditation, a fat laughing Buddha appeared before me, so I asked him.
He said it was because my fly was open.

Love this graphic look. Beautifully done. I always thought the Buddha was skinny, and that the big fellas were Chinese gods of some description. I could be wrong, though.

The original Buddha was an ordinary man, I believe the word Buddha means “enlightened one”, there has been many Buddhas. There are many forms of Buddhism too, I happen to practice Nichiren Buddhism. I just did this one for fun, a friend asked me to do a painting of the fat laughing Buddha, this guy is known as Maitreya, I believe.

I like your laughing Buddhas, don’t know which colour works best, personal preference I suppose. For me, it’s the orange one. There is a great truth behind such representations of the laughing Buddha, pertaining to state of Enlightenment – joy! It struck me that whenever I see the Dalai Lama on TV, he is always laughing (usually). A few years ago, I met an Indian guru, my friend’s Baba, as she introduced him. I was expecting to hear great words of wisdom, & pearls of knowledge, but he just giggled & laughed all the time.
