mags was kind enough to interview me, which was a great honour for me.
This is what she asked:
Your first question: How does being a creative person and pursuing your creativity affect other aspects of your life:
Right now, there are not enough hours in the day to do everything I want so
something has to give! I’m trying not to let the dust build up too much but the home-made cakes and interesting cooking doesn’t appear as often as I would like. I can’t wait to retire soon from my B&B business and have the time to take more photos, look at more of the truly magnificent work on this site and be able to comment on it. In the meantime, I get great joy from the things I see around me: scenery, birds, flowers, buildings, rocks, minute details of plants, wood and stone, insects…..I could go on but had better stop there.
Your second question: Tell us about one person or moment that has made your time on redbubble particularly special or meaningful:
The first comments were wonderful and so encouraging but I was really over the moon on getting my first sale – to think that someone would actually purchase a card of one of my photos seemed incredible! But how can I narrow it down to one person who has made it special when so many folk have taken the time to comment and encourage, to exchange laughter and jokes and to make it such a pleasure to have a sense of belonging. I look forward every day to hearing from my bunch of faithful friends: pat oubridge; Hilary; Brirose; Barry Norton; naturelover; suefel; stephaniek; Mar: Joak; mikrin; velvet eagle; nat; cazz; exposure; wendyslee; BigD and of course, you, mags, to name but a few. and meeting some new ones. The other special thing is that seeing other people’s work makes me want to improve my own and I have a yearning for some proper gear – a DSLR instead of my Canon A630 and a tripod would be a great help!
Your third question: _ Show and tell us about five works on redbubble that have moved or inspired you:_
There are some wonderful bird shots on RB, the clarity and quality of which I could never achieve. One of these, an absolute beauty is:
Red Tailed Hawk by BigD
I want to see the world – all of it! However it’s not possible and visiting it through the photographs on RB is a great pleasure. I also enjoy sharing scenes from my world with everyone else. One place I have visited and would like to return to is Yosemite National Park. In the meantime, the photos of Mar Silva are achingly beautiful, including this one:
The Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne by Mar Silva
Gardening and flowers are my passion and we are spoiled for choice on RB but this is one of my favourites by a guy who produces wonderful macro shots of insects also:
Golden Glory by mikrin
Insects are fascinating things and one guy who is ultra good at capturing them is Ken Boxsell.
One of his wonderful shots is
Bad Hair Day by Ken Boxsell
Lastly, animals, a huge and diverse group. I’m not too good with these but one person who has been a total inspiration with her incredible animal shots has to be – you, mags! Your shots are fantastic so I want to end by saying a thank you to you for inviting me to give this interview and to finish off with this
The Blesbok by mags
