The Bear Island lighthouse is located off shore south of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park near Bar Harbor, Maine…at the entrance to Northeast Harbor. Established in 1839, it was restored and relighted by local lighthouse lovers in 1989.
I am a retired high school English teacher living in northeast Ohio with a particular interest in photographing lighthouses. As I write this, I have photographed 184 lighthouses…at least one on each of the Great Lakes plus numerous Atlantic Coast lights from Maine to North Carolina. My primary camera is a Canon Digital Rebel XSi…and I use either a Canon Powershot G12 or a Canon Powershot SX120 as backup.
