The Marblehead lighthouse…located on Lake Erie…at the entrance to Sandusky Bay…near Port Clinton, Ohio…established in 1821 and still an active aid to navigation. (FYI: Marblehead is the oldest light in continuous operation on the Great lakes…and also claims to be the most photographed on the Great Lakes.)

I am a retired high school English teacher living in northeast Ohio with a particular interest in photographing lighthouses. As I write this, I have photographed 184 lighthouses…at least one on each of the Great Lakes plus numerous Atlantic Coast lights from Maine to North Carolina. My primary camera is a Canon Digital Rebel XSi…and I use either a Canon Powershot G12 or a Canon Powershot SX120 as backup.

    a great shot

  • We are about an hour from Lake Erie and about two hours from Marblehead. Visit the lake often…and Marblehead a couple times each summer. Yes, it is a scenic area. Lots of great photo ops. Thanks for commenting…appreciated as always.

You are a gypsy….lol…going around all over to capture all the beautiful lighthouses!!!

  • My “travels” looking for lighthouses (185 of them so far) have taken me to some interesting, beautiful and sometimes really remote places…and I’ve loved them all. Thanks for the comment…much appreciated as always.

    Great shot Jack!!!
How much rope did you need to round up all the tourists in the parking lot.
The shadows say it was only about 4 pm in the afternoon.

  • I just got lucky…waited quite a while for people to move out of the frame. (The electric cattle prod probably helped!) Thanks for the comment…much appreciated.
