I had a friend of mine in my head when I painted this. This painting was originally published in
Calyx, A Journal of Art and Literature by Women, Vol. 24, no.1, Summer, 2007. Sofia was featured in the Water Media Group. The medium is watercolor. I use Arches cold pressed 100% cotton paper, and the dimensions of the original painting are 14 inches x 20 inches.

This painting was featured in the group “Water Media.”

I am drawn to watercolor because of the conviction that complete control kills art. Unless you remove almost all of the water, complete control with watercolor is very difficult. For me that would still the art and stop the fun.

My paintings are to be enjoyed and celebrated for the pleasure involved in their creation in the hope that pleasure can be passed on to others.

My work has been shown in galleries and appeared in magazines.

Thank you so much, Lynda. You have such a huge body of work and your talent is astounding. I can identify with getting cranky if you can’t do something “arty” several days a week. I think I know something of what you mean.

Thanks much. It isn’t that I don’t begin a painting without planning but often the paint just helps you out while doing its own thing. I am guessing you know what I am describing. Then, as an artist, you catch a lucky break.

You blow me away with your kindness. My best to your lovely granddaughter. Such a beautiful name. It also belonged to my great grandmother. I have to tell you that your picture caught my eye immediately. The resemblance to my mother is astounding. Though you are much younger—my mother died a little over a year ago just short of 97—every time I see your face it gives me a start.

    So nice to “meet” you.
