The mercantile was the lifeblood of the town of Goldfield. Miners who worked the Mammoth Mine and their family purchased goods at the mercantile. It was a cash business especailly since mining carried its own dangers and could cut a life short very quickly. If it wasn’t in the mercantile it could be ordered and delivered by stagecoach within 1-2 months. Today Amazon can do it overnight – times have changed anyone for the good ole days?
