This is a small painting.
I hope you like her.
Alphonse Mucha’s painting: Madonna of the Lilies has his Madonna gazing over a young woman dressed in homeland garb. The two are so beautiful. The Madonna in his picture looks so wispy dreamlike against the realistic look of his seated girl. The seated girl in Mucha’s work is gorgeous and, I think brave and stoic. She is looking straight at the viewer. And the traditional dress is a wonderful site to study. I chose to paint Mucha’s Madonna because I wanted to practice painting fabric folds and the soft almost Impressionistic look of her face. It is a huge challenge to train my hand to paint what I see.
