I want to write, but MUST HAVE SLEEP.
The following image is a photo of the original titled, WATER SERPENTS II painted by Gustav Klimt. His was painted around 1904-07.

The trouble with my attempt to honor Klimt’s painting was not knowing when and where to stop. His work is so highly decorative and huge that I began, as usual, to get lost in the details of his painting. For example, there was the flower motif that seemed to morph into a seaweed motif. And then there was an attempt of trying to capture the expressionistic view that was really there in Klimt’s original.
I really would like to soften my copy of his work, but for now…
While studying his originals, I became convinced that he had a knack for pulling the viewer into the reality of life. The fact that there is a one to one ratio in life… you live and you die… in this world anyway. A casual look at his art shows beauty, but there is a nagging truth that there is another side, in other words things are not always as they seem. If you look close enough at most of Klimt’s paintings, the portraits are really haunting. I love this clever technique in his work.
Ever since the beginning of memory, I drew, painted, and crafted. As a child, above our family couch was a painting of lush woods and trail leading to a cottage house. I followed the trail with my mind’s eye and invented a family that lived in the cottage. Sometimes I would ”sit“ under a painted tree and imagine the world of the painting. My orientation shifted, I was no longer sitting on the couch, I was under the artfully rendered tree. This was the beginning of a love affair with art.

Glorious work Izzybeth. So moody, emotional and beautiful. Klimt would have loved this. Yes indeed.
Anthea, I agree it does seem moody. When you take a closer look at Klimt’s painting you will see the characters really are moody. Almost sort of like Expressionism.

Oh yes, I’m certain Klimt would have approved of this! Vibrant and demanding attention. I love the way it compels one to search around and find the bodies and faces that are worked into the shapes, or that form the shapes. Wonderful!
Elaine, thank you very much. I agree with you, Klimt’s work is demanding. I found myself falling deeper and deeper in the little details of his original. I thought that it might be fairly simple to emulate except I found all kinds of little motifs. And the variety of color. It was really interesting, initially I did not notice his blondish face floating on the upper left.
It amazes me how he was able to present such a simple idea in such a compact space. Women floating in a space of dreams…
