Siren
Acrylic on24×30 stretched canvas.
You will see layers upon layers of paint on this.
So much to say about this Siren, my homage to J.W.Waterhouse. This painting began as a personalchallenge. I had painted faces and such but never a sea-nymph. Will write more about the process of painting this soon.
An artist friend said, some of the Masters, Maxfield Parish for example, used a heavy amount of varnish to create a depth of light and color to his paintings. So, I thought I would experiment with the high gloss medium. I used some interference blue paint that is gorgeous when the light hits it just so.
I like the result in this. Maybe if I took a HDR photo of this the viewer may see the color variation.
The eye was a huge challange to paint
Below, you will find a Waterhouse image is to illustrate the inspiration for this painting.
