This Black Fruit Bat was rescued. In this photo it is awake after a feeding session. The infants in care are kept warm in woollen socks and fed from a tiny dropper bottle, when resting during the day they hang on a clothes dryer. This animal will be released back into the wild when old enough to feed and look after itself.
This species of fruit bat is indigent to northern New South Wales forests. Fruit bats are endemic to Australia and as the name suggests live mostly off fruits, flowers and small insects.
